Furry Friends Friday : Even Dogs Need a Cat Nap

23.8.19

Power nap, cat nap, nanna nap ... three magic phrases for so many snoozsters.

But for today's French bulldog Lady Mabel, cat nap was the winner paws down.  Clearly she's too young to be a nanna.  As for power?  Vastly overrated!  And on that note ...

Feline Friday : Wine Time and Chin-Chin

21.6.19

Tabby Cat Wine Time fluffy cat illustration © Shell Sherree all rights reserved
Tabby Cat Wine Time fluffy cat illustration  © Shell Sherree all rights reserved

Bottoms up!

Today's illustration sees this napping tabby being the finest form of cat and choosing to ignore this cheery directive.  Fair enough, I say.

According to a token online search in order to bring you something resembling researched content, this cheerful expression quite likely comes from ye olden golden days when British sailors were bribed to join the navy courtesy of a coin at the bottom of their glass or bottle.  This cute kitty cat is clearly all over that ruse and has decided to follow the Chin-Chin school of celebration instead.  And on that note ...

Happy Feline Friday to you!

PS: Take this sweetheart home by adding to cart at the link here.  No feeding required! Chin-chin, chop chop and ciao for now, baby.

Let's face it ... every now and then, we can all do with a quiet night in!  Some of us more often than others.

Today's fashion and fluffballs illustration sees us attempting to revive that good old excuse all-but made extinct by the invention of dry shampoo: "I'm sorry, I'd love to go out but I have to wash my hair."  Are you on board?  We have home-made marshmallows and plenty more logs to toss on the fire.  (Let's pretend it's winter no matter where you are ...)  And on that note ...

When it comes to high tea, this definition is unlikely to be in the dictionary.

In today's fashion and fluffballs illustration, a chandelier becomes a tempting trapeze in the eyes of these kitties.  Cupcakes are clearly to be toyed with ~ and if you can juggle your fine bone china on your knees, you're bound to please.  And on that note ...

Time for a glam weekend ... we've a plethora of paper parasols for your potion of preference ~ and you can leave your shoes at the door.  Barefoot and ballgowned is always welcome Chez Shell.

Today's fashion and fluffballs blue gown glam illustration includes a dear Klee Kai friend of ours named Leo and a chandelier-filled interior with a garden view.  My signature 'smiling eyes' style doesn't show off the amazing blue windows to Leo's soul .... but you can see them in all their glory when you visit him and his beautiful cohort Lady Como at @ComoAndTheCity.  You'll get lost in them for a while.

So come, let us throw Ol' Blue Eyes onto the start of our playlist and clink glasses in style.  And on that note ...

Fashion & Fluffballs Friday : I Dream of Jean-y

10.2.17

Fashion & Fluffballs Illustration : I Dream of Jean-y © Shell-Sherree

I'm not sure we could squoosh ourselves into Jeannie's bottle, but we can aspire to some Jeannie-esque hair.

When I was little {littler}, I adored I Dream of Jeannie.  My most adored PJs were pink and white spotted, with a top akin to hers.  If I could find her harem-styled outfit for a fancy dress costume today, I'd still want to take it for a spin ~ albeit with a diaphanous scarf draped strategically where a six pack will never be.

For lounging around in today's illustration, however, I've chosen something muffin-top friendly plus boyfriend jeans, being far more conducive to kitty climbing than harem pants.  The very thought makes my eyes water.  Aieee!  And on that note ....

Fashionable Friday : Tousled and Tasselled

28.8.15

Fashion and fluffballs illustration : Tousled and Tasselled © Shell-Sherree
{Fashion and fluffballs illustration :  Tousled and Tasselled © Shell-Sherree}

My present coffee table and I will be having a 'conscious uncoupling' soon.  It's served me well but I never really loved, loved, loved it ~ and from here on in, I'm all about choosing what I love, love, love.  {Kale should be on that list but unless it comes in macaron form ... enough said.}

Given I put my feet up on my coffee table whenever I'm on the sofa, a buttoned ottoman is gaining traction.  And it's softer on paws for landings.  There's the slight matter of the unofficial 'scratching post' status that might be forced upon it, but that's what tassells and fringes were invented for.  What goes on under a fringed skirt stays under a fringed skirt.

So come, sit a while and we shall debate the virtues of a pink-and-lilac-veined Italian white marble-topped gilt legged coffee table ~ not that I've really given it a thought ~ versus a luscious fairy-floss-pink tufted ottoman worthy of an empire.  Hugh: Please grind the arabica beans and fire up the cezve.  Grazie, bello!  And on that note ...

Furry Friends Friday: Whiskers + Kisses

14.12.12

Harry of Whiskers + Kisses {ink & watercolour illustration Shell-Sherree}

Ah, sweet mystery of search engines at last have found me... and I have no idea how, but it turned out to be most serendipitous when Leanne of Brischetto Photography happened upon me while seeking a kindred spirit to illustrate her fur kids.  When I saw Dax, Rusty and Harry on the Whiskers + Kisses website their smitten mum has dedicated to them ~ well, resistance was futile!  It was a two-fold blessing, as I've been wanting to have Ella photographed by someone who can do her justice {who doesn't live on the other side of the world ~ you all know who you are!!} ~ and along she came.  One logo, three illustrations, a photo shoot and countless hilarious emails later, I've found a beautiful new friend as well.  Ella was reasonably gracious for her portrait session {I'll be posting links soon} and such a good time was had by all, we ran out of light before Leanne could photograph my studio.  Not to worry, it gives us another excuse to catch up again soon.  I did procure some macarons for styling purposes, and they might perhaps have happened to fall into our mouths when we declared, "It's a wrap!" for the day.  A fitting end to proceedings.

Rusty {top} and Daxy-Girl of Whiskers + Kisses {ink & watercolour illustration Shell-Sherree}

When you drop over to visit Dax, Rusty and Harry, I'm thinking casual is the order of the day.   Snacky-wackies are optional but likely to be welcome.  And on that note...

Happy Furry Friends Friday to you!

Francophile Friday: Pampered Pug

23.11.12

Illustration of  Pampered Pug and Daybed by Shell-Sherree: ink & watercolour

I see a lazy weekend ahead.  Draw the drapes on the daybed if the light becomes too taxing.  Bolster your resolve to do nothing ~ as beautifully as possible.  Today's illustration is for those who feel the status quo around here is tipped in the feline direction.  Marie-Antoinette's penchant for pugs helps me balance the equation without putting a finger on the scale {inspired by this scene from Sofia Coppola's movie of the same name}.  Tradition dictates we should eat cake.  But fear not, jumping through dress hoops is a thing of the past when it comes to our weekend wardrobe.  And on that note...

Fashionable Friday: Façades & Flowers

1.6.12

pigment ink & watercolour illustration, 10.25" x 7.5" [26 x 19cm]

I was momentarily tempted to call this a Francophile Friday post and attempt to pull the wool over your eyes, with the help of a black and white striped awning and some attractive potted shrubs. Malheureusement, the wording on the glass is a giveaway.  {And I can't fib to save myself.}

Not to worry ~ I'm very glad the Rose St Trading Co calls Australia 'home', and I was thoroughly chuffed to illustrate the façade for its new website.  The site designer, Danni O'Neil, has done really lovely work on the layout and visuals.   And I love the way she has used elements of the illustration throughout the site, too.  Given the shop is a homewares/interiors/fashion space, we shall co-ordinate ourselves accordingly before settling in for the weekend.  I wonder if they sell beds.  And on that note... actually, wait ~ there's more.

Nôte Couture, oh-beautiful-online-purveyor of personalised stationery, has added another of my designs to its range.  Long-time followers might vaguely remember this flowery illustration.  Julie at Nôte Couture is a treat.  She takes cat-pampering to a whole new level {something many of us can relate to!}, and it's always a joy to work with her.  You can read more about it over on this lovely post.   And on that note ~ yes, this time, really...

Fashionable Friday: Mise/Pretty Far West Illustrated Gift Guide

9.12.11

ink & watercolour illustration by Shell-Sherree - curation by Mise/Pretty Far West
~ see below for links to individual items ~

Fortified by a magnum of champagne and fruit mince pies, we arrive at the second in our little teensy mini-series of illustrated gift guides, curated by a few of my favourite style bloggers and illustrated by little teensy me.  Last Friday, we were in Provence with Vicki Archer of French Essence.  Today, we travel par avion Pretty Far West to Ireland, where our guest curator Mise can be found plucking dewy blooms from the garden and nonchalantly arranging them in an endless array of Bonne Maman jars, before working some W.B. Yeats into her needlepoint project, perched on her pink and white toile de jouy Louis chair, warmed by her ivory stove as her sourdough rises in the kitchen.  All this before breakfast.  If ever there was a reason to visit Ireland {and there are many, to be sure}, visiting their Queen of Fudge, Wit and Domesticity is an excellent one.  Many of you will know Mise from our frivolous and fanciful deep and meaningful discussions in the comments, so you'll be keenly aware of her inimitable humour and charm, and her choices for our gift guide reflect that in spades.  {Hers is pink, I'm rather sure.}

I asked Mise if she could choose anyone to dress up as Santa and climb down her chimney, who would it be and why.  To which she replied, "I'd choose your dear self, as we'd surely have the best of chats by the fire, sipping champagne and munching florentines as we spoke of the nature of whimsy and whether pale blue can overcome all strife. I might not insist on the Santa suit, though, if you would prefer to wear a divine frock."  Thank you ~ I would be profoundly honoured, dear Mise!  I'll get back to you regarding attire, though I'm leaning towards this Tom Ford number, as I know your chimney would be impeccably clean. And on that note...

Happy Fashionable Friday to you!

Feline Friday: Is Louis Gilty?

23.9.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS

Here's another of those 'in my dreams' illustrations.  Someday, perhaps when my Ella has tired of climbing up inside {yes, inside} my ageing sofa to snooze on its hammock-like underside, I'll trade my low-maintenance pieces for something of the more delicate Louis family.  And perhaps then, my precious black velvet feline will be happy to sleep on it, rather than within it.  I think I'll opt for a gilt frame on the chaise.  A whitewash finish could be too matchy-matchy with the oversized mirror.  Upholstered in a luscious Designers Guild pattern?  Or perhaps in a simple white duck, with tie-on loose covers to be changed on a whim {or when they have been winsomely shredded by sweet kitty claws past the point of no return}.  Please, relax while I wheel in the strategic drinks cart to facilitate our discussions.  And on that note...

Happy Feline Friday to you!

Furry Friends Friday: Pawchance to Dream

22.7.11

ink & watercolour illustration, ACQUIRE PRINTS

In the interests of feline and canine equality, please find herewith one puppy dog, enjoying the tail end of the northern hemisphere summer.  His humans might be found in a lazy hammock nearby. If you live above the equator, I'm very much starting to look forward to trading seasons with you, and exchanging my hot water bottle and double doona layers for linen sheets and someone to fan me.  {Something like this would do.  Or to keep it Australian, this.  Hugh's on recuperative leave for a few weeks, possibly enjoying his very own hammock...}  And on that note...

Furry Friends Friday: The Puppy Wings It

6.5.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS
While those geographically inclined towards the Northern Hemisphere are jauntily stowing away throw rugs in cedar chests and exchanging velvet cushions for spring floral linens, I'm layering thermals and cranking up the eco-heater {the greenest nod I can give without becoming hypothermic}This puppy dog knows where to be on a cool autumn night heading into winter.  And he's happy to share.  There's room for more than one wagging tail in this suede wing chair.  And on that note...

Happy Furry Friends Friday to you!

PS:  Next time you want to write home about something, perhaps you'd like to exercise your penmanship on some gorgeous personalised stationery decorated with a Shell Sherree illustration?  I'm honoured to join the selection of talented artists contributing designs to Nôte Couture, based right here in Australia.  There's a lovely array of papergoods, including recipe cards & innovative mouse mat notepads, customised with the design of your choice.  At the time of posting, you'll see my KittyKins in Paris illo featured in the New Designs at the top of  the home page.  Life's a Beach is also there, with more coming soon.  Happy handwriting...

Francophile Friday: Cushy Kitties, Louis Style

15.4.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS
Our next council kerbside pickup is only a couple of months away ~ so I'm honing my extrasensory perception and having the sparkplugs changed on my Louis Radar.  If anything resembling this chaise and side table is lurking by the side of the road in a 15 km radius, it will be mine.  These pampered Parisian kittens, on the other hand, have already landed on their paws and secured some gilty pleasures of their very own.  Shall we name them?  I'll start pouring the champagne fountain while you're thinking aloud.  And on that note...

Fanciful Friday: Lime & Firth, Please

18.2.11

ink & watercolour weensy meep miniature, 2.5 x 3.5" [6.5 x 9cm ] ACQUIRE A MEEP
I can hear you whimpering that we aren't heading for Paris or Venice today {oh yes, I can}, but this weekend I'm taking us somewhere different.  That's what Fanciful Friday is all about.  And pip, pip, cheerio ~ a change is as good as a holiday, eh what? We're heading across land and sea via motorcraft, watercraft and aerocraft in all manner of eccentric shapes and sizes ~ and before you can ask, "Are we there yet?" for the ninety-ninth time, we'll arrive at Lime Wood in Hampshire, England.

Vogue Living {Australia} featured this bucolic getaway {Sep-Oct 2010 edition} and described it thus and verily: "A restrained dose of whimsy and wildflower hues preserve the Regency aesthetic of an English country manor hotel without the formal stuffiness of its counterparts."  Wherever Regency aesthetic resides, Colin Firth will be bathing in a lake nearby.  Done. I've artfully contrived a gilt-framed Do Not Disturb sign on the doors leading to the drawing room.  There will be no dart throwing, as the walls are lined with lavender raw silk.  But until the company arrives, we can bide our time with a glass of sherry and look intelligent as we ponder what in the heck the {no-doubt-hellishly-expensive} abstract on the wall is all about. And on that note...

Happy Fanciful Friday to you!

Friday Fleurish: A Fancy of Feline

3.12.10

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] Order print here
Blue skies smack me over the head with happy vibes and are always welcome at my place.  But at least the grey cloud cover that doggedly pursued November into December is keeping summer's heat and humidity at bay, thus saving a girl from many bad fur days.  Whether it's a weekend of raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens {such as these luscious ones on Virginia's grandkitty}, here's wishing you more than a few of your favourite things.  And on that note...

Happy Friday Fleurish to you!
