Friday Flowers : Have Flower Truck, Will Travel

If there's anything better than flowers, it's an aqua-tinted flower truck in Italy filled with them.

Today's illustration is replete with a feline flower arranger - something all flower trucks should make mandatory for maximum petal placing pleasure.  As for our German Shepherd in the front seat, she might be inclined to herd a few sheep along the way, so best we leave the driving to a pro.  And on that note ...

Friday Flowers : Faith, Hope and Love

Faith, hope and love.  And flowers !

As humans, our priorities are very much out of whack at times, I think, because I've yet to see any panic-buying of flowers.  For this, I am grateful - but if ever we needed something simple and happy like a bunch of blossoming blooms to lift our spirits, it's at a time like this.    And on that note, take good care of yourself and others, do all you can to stay positive because it truly does help, and ...

Friday Fleurish : A Finesse of Felines

7.6.19

Hello Gorgeous flower shop cats in window illustration © Shell Sherree all rights reserved
Hello Gorgeous flower shop cats in window illustration  © Shell Sherree all rights reserved

If there's anything finer than a shopful of flowers, it's a finesse of felines!

Today's illustration sees a furry trio of kitty cats enjoying their view.  This flower shop is fictitious but if ever I was to open one, it might very well look something like this.  The original inspiration comes from London florist and event stylist firm By Appointment Only Design. By Jove, how lovely!

So come, let us ponder on petunias and brush up on our begonias.  And stock up on salmon for the little ones waiting patiently here.  And on that note ...

Francophile Friday : If the Leopard Print Fits ...

26.8.16

paris illustration, fashion illustration, Fashion illustration: Rosy Leopard Slouching in Paris © Shell-Sherree
{ Paris fashion illustration: Rosy Leopard Slouching in Paris © Shell-Sherree }

Ahh, leopard print!  I should stick with a pretty clutch or pair of pumps, but today, all restraint went out the window.  Hello, statement coat!

The current slouchy 'wear everything three sizes up and all at once' trend might suit suit those of the 6 foot tall persuasion, but those of the 5 foot two persuasion?  Not so much.  Today's illustration is point in case.  I had to add 12 inches to my stature and even so, it seems I'm wearing a leopard dressing gown over my dearly departed grandpa's duds and my nephew's sneakers.  But gosh dang, in spite of it all, I kind of like it.

So come, let us enjoy the comfort of running shoes and an outfit that will surely camouflage the most overindulgent of pastry feedings and several belt notch releases with ease.  Heck, I think we could tuck an entire macaron tower in there.  Shall we test the theory?  And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

Fleurish Friday : Tiptoeing Around Tulips

20.5.16

Cocktails and Vintage Noir Fashion & Kitty Cat illustration © Shell-Sherree
{Cocktails and Vintage Noir Fashion & Kitty Cat illustration © Shell-Sherree}

Welcome to my tulip garden.  Not exactly earthy but highly appropriate for today's illustration.

Bulbs are supposed to be planted when the weather turns cold ~ traditionally known quaintly by historians as 'autumn' and 'winter'.  But Houston, we have a problem, as I sit here at my studio desk wearing a black cotton slip dress and no need of a cardi {albeit still daylight}.

Aspiring tulip growers of Brisbane must have beads of discombobulation trickling down their furrowed brows.  Their bulbs are in grave jeopardy of ending up crushed and sautéed in a case of mistaken onion identity, loitering as they are in the dark recesses of fridge crisper drawers while the mercury decides whether to release its grip on the mid-20s of celsius.  And yet, for problems such as this, we should pray. I'm happy to dodge frozen extremities for a while longer.

So come, let us don our shortest sleeves and satin cocktail gloves, pull up a mocktail and speak of black tulips and unicorns.  And on that note ...

Friday Fleurish : A Spot of Weekend Gardening

29.4.16

Flutter By Kitty illustration © Shell-Sherree
{Fashion & Fluffballs illustration: Flutter By Flower Fountain © Shell-Sherree}

This is the closest I could happily come unto gardening.  Tuck a few flowers and butterflies into a tumbled mess of up-do and that's my work done for the weekend.

No weed-pulling.  No Edward Scissorhandsing.  I can't even fit a hat on top, so I'm doing my thing for sun smarts by staying safely indoors.

So come, let us make a pitcher of iced single origin oolong hand-plucked tea and ponder on the vagaries of varietals.  It will all be news to me.  And on that note ...

Francophile Friday: Patrick's Petal Power

25.5.12

ink pen & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] BROWSE PRINTS

Based on the signage, there are no shrinking violets here.  If you have it, flaunt it.  And from the looks of this charming and pretty fleuriste in Paris, there is floral artistry afoot.  Though it's been a particularly dreary and drizzly day here {whine}, many of you elsewhere are frolicking amongst the colours of spring and rainbows, not necessarily in that order.  The calories from our macaron diversions of a fortnight ago have long since evaporated, so let's cinch our waists and prepare to lose ourselves in the decadence of all things flowery and bright chez Patrick Allain.  And on that note...

Friday Fleurish: Spring is Tweet

2.9.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS

Today is officially the second of spring here.  The scent of jasmine has been teasing the air for a couple of weeks now.  And finally, it's official.  What better way to express gratitude for the exchange of seasons than with some happy blooms and a cheeky little bird.   And a little splish-splash of matching Bombay Sapphire when the temperature catches up with the calendar.   And on that note...

Francophile Friday: Saintly Aristocats

15.7.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 8.75" x 7" [22.5 x 18cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS
Yesterday was Bastille Day.  But thanks to the miracles of time zone travel, you might still be wearing your beret, brushing macaron crumbs from the table and resisting the urge to tap the closest piano accordion player over the head with a baguette.  It was thus inevitable that today would irresistibly draw us back to Paris and this view.  Merci and abundant thanks to Genie of Paris and Beyond for her gorgeous inspiration.  And our three little tricolor kitties are Berlioz, Marie et Toulouse in a walk down memory lane with The Aristocats.  Being an artistic pianist with one camouflaged whisker of prima donna, this is one of my all-time favourite Walt Disney movies.  Berlioz can be considered blue in cat lingo, so I'm only taking a smidge of watercoloured poetic license.   Let's go for a stroll and find some jazz.  And on that note...

Francophile Friday Fleurish: The Macaron Apology

1.7.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS

While we merrily took tea in Paris last weekend, there was an elephant in the room.  No, it did not break any of the china.  {It's an elephant, not a bull.  Stay with me, s'il vous plaît.} But it was there, no matter how quietly it tried to drink its Assam Harmutty Estate Tea while standing in the corner with a lampshade on its head.  The cause?  There were no macarons invited to our tea party.  Today, this travesty is addressed ~ may the festivities resume.  And on that note...

Francophile Friday: Amour at Bois Violette

14.5.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 8.75" x 7" [22.5 x 18cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS

Every day is a beautiful day for flowers.  Giving, receiving, plucking, inhaling, or being smitten from afar.  I wonder who will need smelling salts first after passing out from the heady sights and scents at Bois Violette in Paris.  The inspiration for today's illustration comes thanks to this gorgeous scene by Genie at Paris and Beyond {merci, chère Genie ~ you are most kind!} Coincidentally, our little pampered pooch from last Friday was officially named Violette by Cali, one of our regulars here, so I took it as a sign for today's subject matter.  It seems we can find Amour to go with our flowers while we're there.  And on that note...

PS: Thank you, sweet Danielle of drifty and romantic VenetiaMicio for passing on the Kreativ Blogger award.  Your blog is poetic and I am honoured to receive this award from you.

Friday Fleurish: A Fancy of Feline

3.12.10

ink & watercolour illustration, 7" x 8.75" [18 x 22.5cm] Order print here
Blue skies smack me over the head with happy vibes and are always welcome at my place.  But at least the grey cloud cover that doggedly pursued November into December is keeping summer's heat and humidity at bay, thus saving a girl from many bad fur days.  Whether it's a weekend of raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens {such as these luscious ones on Virginia's grandkitty}, here's wishing you more than a few of your favourite things.  And on that note...
