My life took a new turn when I happily stumbled upon Paris Daily Photo while following a croissant-crumb trail of links back in 2008. I'm guessing it started with typing Paris into Google ~ no need to bring bring Inspector Maigret out of retirement.

I fell a bit in love with Eric Tenin and his gaggle of loyal followers. This was my first encounter with BlogLand ~ and wow. The wit, the repartee, the camaraderie! The Paris eye candy, from the gilty gloriousness to the everyday! I was captivated. After lurking shyly for a crazy length of time, I still remember squeezing up the nerve to leave my first comment, and the warm glow of being welcomed {by Coltrane_lives first, if my memory serves correctly}. Eric and Paris Daily Photo sparked the start of my own blog and many dear friendships both on and off our various respective blogs, seeded in a common love for Paris and discovering a whole bunch of other kinships {not the least being kitties}.

Each year, Eric holds a Paris Daily Photo Picnic {aka the PDP Picnic, pronounced PDP Pique-nique by those in the know}, and way back I whipped up a little illustration for the 2009 edition. What do you know, tomorrow heralds this year's picnic so I've gone back to the archives and bent my 'no repeats' illo philosophy as I thought it would be fun to revisit. Eric has updated his site design a couple of times since I did this, so it can go into the archives for posterity's sake {and posterior's sake}. I won't be there and each year it comes around, I kick myself up the proverbial for not getting my proverbial to Paris yet. I hang my head, Yoda, as I do my best to follow your wisdom: Do or do not. There is no try.

But if you are going along, here's something you can slip into. Plenty of layers in case of uncertain weather. Let us pray for baby blue skies ~ either way, the picnic will be lit by the sunshine of your smiles. And on that note...

Francophile Friday: Vintage Paris

One of the many unfortunate side-effects of our January floods is the impact on the supply of vintage treasures at my local thrift shops. This is in no small part due to several of them going underwater, including my favourite, the RSPCA Thrift Shop at Sherwood. {No, they do not sell men in tights. The Sherwood Forest store might.} I'm fond of fossicking around in there, so I'm champing at the bit for their re-opening. As excellent as they are, however, I've yet to happen upon any vintage items like the ones illustrated poking out from under a pile of $2 stonewash jeans. One suspects one is a tad more likely to see them languishing around with a mild air of ennui and a waft of cigar smoke in the Place des Pyramides in Paris. Merci to dear Eric of Paris Daily Photo for the inspiration. They actually look like fine getaway vehicles. Meep, meep. Ladies, gentlemen ~ start your engines. And on that note...

Francophile Friday: The Tenin Perspective Phenomenon

If you love Paris, you must surely by now be aware of Paris Daily Photo. If not, please visit there post haste and bookmark or subscribe tout de suite, otherwise you are missing out on a daily treat of great magnitude!

Paris Daily Photo celebrated its 5th birthday yesterday. PDP was created by the sweet and friendly Parisian {"yes, it's true!"} Eric Tenin, and the City Daily Photo community grew from there, also thanks to Eric. For five years {and one day}, Eric has been posting a photo of Paris every single day, and in the process, has also become known for taking photos at ground level or from tipsy angles, in spite of never once being tipsy while photographing. Never once. Yesterday, many members of the CDP community honoured Eric by taking their daily photos while lying flat on their stomachs in the middle of traffic, or kneeling while aiming skywards and toppling over like nine pins, thereby creating an extension of the Tenin Perspective, known as the Tenin Perspective Phenomenon ~ the likes of which could well be seen again each year around this time. So when you're out and about in your city on 11th March each year, please, do remember to look down in case there's a dedicated City Daily Photo blogger lying prostrate before you while taking a no-doubt-sensational photo.

Today's illustration is a tribute to Eric, based on his photo taken on Rue Victor Massé, typifying just one example of the Tenin Perspective. {Thank goodness I chose not to do this in Meep Miniature...} Congratulations on five remarkable years of dedication and generosity of spirit, dear Eric, and wishing you as many more as makes you happy! And on that note...
