Francophile Friday : French Carousel to Carry Your Worries Away

27.10.23

Can a carousel carry your worries away?  This one might at least chase them off for another day.

Today's illustration is inspired by a charming carousel spotted by my niece in the south of France.  Knowing my penchant for them, she kindly sent through her pics and Voilà, as they say, the rest is history.

Rather than a plethora of ponies (never a problem for me, by the way!), this one delights its wayfarers with other forms of transport: hot air balloon, vintage plane, cute little fire truck, steampunk spaceship and also, thankfully, the classic, traditional pony.  Your getaway might be slower but it's a champion when it comes to carbon emissions!  And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

Francophile Friday : Carousel at Sacré Coeur Paris

31.3.23

Carousel Montmartre with Sacré Coeur Paris illustration © Shell Sherree all rights reserved

What do you call a Venice carousel in Paris?  A double dose of magic!

Today's illustration sees one of the prettiest carousels in Paris (aren't they all?!) and a group of furry friends patiently waiting to go for a spin as soon as they can figure out how.

It's nestled under the peaceful gaze of Sacré Coeur de Montmartre (Sacred Heart of Montmartre) where the whole of Paris is laid out below like Ernest Hemingway's Moveable Feast on a picnic blanket.  This charming Carrousel Venetien may be old, but its charms never will be.  And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!  PS:  This new addition to my range of Paris carousels is now available as a gorgeous fine art print ... ride on over to my studio store to find out more.

Francophile Friday : Carousel Trocadero with an Eiffel Tower View

If you want to choose a theme for sightseeing in Paris, locating and visiting her carousels is an especially picturesque one!

My newest carousel illustration artwork is inspired by the beautiful carousel located in the Jardin du Trocadero.  Crafted from timber, this whimsical double decker offers not just a life-affirming ride: it also has one of the prettiest views of the Eiffel Tower you can find.  Situated next to the Warsaw Fountain, which transforms quietly into a massive 'mirror' when it slumbers, you'll easily while away hours here and wonder where they vanished. The park bench and its furry friends are rarely visible to the naked eye ... but if the wind is blowing in a very particular way, you just might be lucky.  And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

PS:  Acquire this artwork as a magnificent fine art print here.

Francophile Friday : Carousel Flight of Fancy

Where there's fairy floss manure, there's a carousel pony!

Today's Paris illustration sees two young lassies taking a spin on a carousel near the Eiffel Tower in Paris.  And just in case planes are more your cup of tea than ponies, there's something for you, too.  If you look closely, you'll find our intrepid black kitty cat and her French bulldog companion stowing away.  No-one has the heart to tell them this mode of transport is taking them nowhere in a hurry.  And on that note ...

Fashionable Francophile Friday : Carousel and Totes Adorable

When you and your furry friends are inseparable, you'll need means and ways of taking them everywhere.

A simple tote can suffice if you have a well-behaved sidekick and who are we kidding?  This kitty is just barely more likely to stay put than a pig is to fly.  And not above biting the hand that feeds her.  Or giving a gentle nip of displeasure at least.  Our cute French bulldog is guaranteed, however, to stay put and smell the roses.  And on that note ...

Where there's fairy floss, there's a carousel pony!

Today's Paris illustration sees our cat burglar and her French bulldog accomplice aiding and abetting this merry-go-round gee-gee in making her giddy-up getaway.  Perish the thought as to what they'll get up to.  Lock up the Louvre and put your Picassos under extra lock and key!  And on that note ...

Francophile Fashion Friday Illustration : Violet and the Paris Carousel

There's more than one way to smuggle fluffy stowaways onto a carousel in Paris.

Today's Paris illustration sees a violet gown of some enormity providing cover for a doggy day care's worth of willing participants ... with luck and a good sense of direction, hopefully a few more will emerge before the ride is over.  On second thoughts, they could need a cut lunch and a compass.  And on that note ...

Is it too much to ask for a carousel ride in Paris for Christmas?

In today's illustration, this sweet kitty cat is getting up close and personal in order to flex the full furry weight of her feline persuasive muscle.

So come, let us don fluffy coats and find fairy floss flavoured with rose.  Where this ride stops, nobody knows. And on that note ...

Happy Francophile Friday to you !  Wishing you love and laughter, peace, love and light for a beautiful festive season and a happy new year.  See you soon!

Francophile Friday Illustration : Paris Carousel and Frenchie Feeding Time

Life is a carousel, old chum ... if there's a mondegreen to be had, it will be had by me, by jove and eh, what!

Aside from potential lack of any genuine singing ability, my complete and utter inability to retain lyrics would run serious interference if I ever wanted to make a crust from it.  Songs without words - that would have to be my thing.

But this little French bulldog in today's illustration is showing us how to make a crust from other things, namely a gnawsome baguette he is willing to share with his new feathered friend.  And speaking of running interference, he just might have to do that if our kitty gets other ideas.  And on that note ...

Francophile Friday: Hôtel de Ville or Roundabouts

15.3.13

{Hôtel de Ville Carousel: ink & watercolour illustration by Shell-Sherree}

If you've had a rough week, not to worry.  What you lose on the swings, you gain on the roundabouts.  The details are sketchy as to what we lost on the swings and who was in charge at the time {I'm sure we can blame it loosely on last week's adventure}, but I'll gladly accept a carousel ride in Paris to make up for it.  Virginia found this double-decker beauty at the Hôtel de Ville last Christmas {thank you for the lovely inspiration, ma chère!}  A transeasonal wardrobe choice will cover us in both hemispheres at the moment, and the bag is large enough to stow contraband of the macaron persuasion without sending us off to the chiropractors.  {Mind you, a massage could still be in order, not that my arm ever needs twisting on that score.}  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!

PS:  The charming folk at Winsome Journal kindly lassoed me for an interview recently.  If we'd caught up in person, I'm sure tea and blueberry white chocolate scones would have been involved.  That's the way they roll.  {The printed edition comes out later this year.}  Please read on over here if you're curious...

Francophile Friday: Dior Noël au Printemps

21.12.12

Inspiration: Dior's Christmas windows, Printemps, Paris ~ illustration by Shell-Sherree

I love that you know me so well and send me things you know I can't help but draw.  Thanks to dear Cali for first showing me Dior's Christmas windows at Parisian department store Le Printemps this season.  Call me 'shallow' and roll me in fairy floss, but I would give a lot for one of those marionettes.  And the sets.  From carousels to monogrammed hot air balloons, the House of Dior takes us on a whimsical and delicate journey through the City of Light.   Choose your gown and some gilty sustenance, grab a kitty {or a pretend puppy dog if so inclined} and enjoy the ride.

May your Christmas and festive season be filled with love and laughter, no matter how you choose to celebrate.  Thank you for another year of beautiful friendship and flights of imagination.  I'll do my usual and enjoy a little R&R with my nearest and dearest {the ones who live here, that is!}  See you in a couple of weeks or so.   Group hug, my sweets.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday {and Festive Frivolities} to you!

Francophile Friday: Paris by Carrousel

16.12.11

ink & watercolour illustration, 8.75" x 7" [22.5 x 18cm] ACQUIRE PRINTS

When life throws you curve balls, escape to the nearest carousel, I say.  What this one lacks in proximity, it more than compensates for in magic.  Please slip over to Genie's Paris and Beyond to view the original breathtaking sight in le Jardin des Tuileries, captured by her beautiful eye in the late afternoon winter light, bulbs twinkling and perfectly described by Genie as a 'blue and white wedding cake of a merry-go-round'.  Thank you for the very pretty inspiration, dear Genie ~ bisous!  I'm not sure how they hold up to snow, but I've arranged for a fairy floss vendor [aka cotton candy] to provide our refreshments in every pastel colour.  And not a plastic bag in sight ~ these ones are spun onto renewable-bamboo sticks or paper cones fashioned from vintage Paris maps edged in silk passementerie, depending on your fancy.  {There are also fairy floss martinis, but caution: when combined with enough carousel rides, the result can cause hallucinations.}  Let's take her for a spin.  And on that note...

Happy Francophile Friday to you!
